A Sky Full of Elephants, an Afternoon by the Sea

A book, the ocean, and an afternoon that gave me room to reset.

I brought Sky Full of Elephants to Montauk thinking that a book and a view of the water might be exactly the reset I needed.

For a while, they were. I could read a few pages, look up at the horizon, and feel my mind grow quieter. Then I’d return to Cebo Campbell’s story, where Charlie and the daughter he has never met are finding their way through a world suddenly changed.

Water sits at the edge of that story, too, though it offers something very different there. I kept thinking about that as I read beside the ocean: how the same view can make room for calm, for questions, and for the urge to turn one more page.
